just thought I'd say the latest big scam I've seen alot is people selling IDS swords.. (Icy Dragon Swords) I've never had it completed but I've had tons of people try to pull it on me. Anyway, they will either put an IDS up first thing, and then say something messed up and then switch, or they first thing put a dyed Fiery Dragon Sword. So if you go to buy an Icy Dragon Sword make sure that's what you are getting :P

One thing that makes the quick switch easier is that once you click the trade goes through, it does not wait for you to release the button like internet explorer does. So someone who is used to using the internet might click accept before they have finished looking at the trade, not realizing it will go through instantly and be scammed. At least that is what happened to me a while back, I just never mentioned about the clicking part before.

Tip:
when selling ectos (most high valued items) u will get geniun purchases from people getting there FoW armour.
but once in a while some1 will say "wat u want for the ecto and how many u got" now for all u know with these people could b genuin but mabey not. i got my first of many ecto drops and advertised 2 sell 1 for 8K(which was goin rate at that time) get a few whips, so i accept the first and reply "im at storage" so they arrive and trade now, this is were they try to scam u they say "cana we hurry i need 2 log off soon",
the trade window comes up you place your'e ecto the spend 2 mins with nothing happens u get impatient u say "wats the hold up comon" u see there money being offer u hit accept hit straight away he/she hits accept sale over. now u look at the new money you made NOT u notice u got G instead of P(platnium)

He was selling a Sup Absorb. The guy obviously works with a partner (upon reflection) since husband was in Drok's selling and the guy whispered him from LA dist 1. So husband, thinking it odd but ok, went to LA 1. The guy put up 95K, husband put up the rune. Husband double checked the gold amount offered and clicked accept. The guy said hold on, he was "having lag" (which we can certainly empathize with the last few days). The trade was attempted 3 times, lending creedence to the lag story.
The third time, husband clicked accept, again ensuring that the gold was present. The other person promptly retrieved his gold from the window and acccepted the rune without payment. Husband then tried to open trade or otherwise get his gold, the person remained "in trade" except for a brief moment when he showed husband a Rune of Sup Hammer and then fled the game altogether.
You can bet Anet got a report on this! Problem is, LA was so busy that by the time husband collected his thoughts (just a few seconds), it was too late to get a screenshot of the text of the transaction. All the trade and chat had already dissolved the words.

BTW if u hit the ` button next to the 1 u can scroll up and find the text ure looking for

Being scammed is part of the game, heck I've scammed a ton of people.. (Do I think I'm a good person for it, No.) But hey, maybe I RP as a backstabbing swindler? Its a valid excuse.

Ashes
Howdy
I have personally bought 2 sets of Altheas ashes from players with no problems at all. The way to avoid this scam is that the ashes look just like a pile of glittering dust, but read as "Altheas ashes Quest Item" when moused.
They will never be in an urn.
Not sure if the following is a scam.
I won an auction on GWG auction section (can't remember item but think it was gold sword of something or other) when i msgd the seller he asked how much for (think it was about 200g) and then said "LOL this item is worth 20K" i replied "why no reserve then?" all i got back was "LOL go find another sucka who knows nuthing about pricing".
Very annoyed at wasting time trying to get a cool sword for my character.

Altheas ashes are not a scam per say. if you do buy them off someone again they will look like glittering dust an read as "altheas ashes quest item"most of the time to make them work for you if you already have the quest you just need to leave piken and then go back.if you don't already have the quest then make sure you get it(if you don't have the quest and your trying to get the ashes to work they won't)

That one person who said they accepted and then the person who they were trading with took their gold off and then accepted.....first off, at that point your accept is no longer there and you'd have to accept again with no money showing on their side. Any time someone hits modify, if the other side had accepted, it's not longer accepted, it makes you resubmit and reaccept, so hard to get scammed this way unless you're not paying attention. Just FYI.

I had found and salvaged a Superior Rune of Absorption earlier today (around 3:00 pm) and was looking for a buyer. He offered to bu y, and i ased for 80k. He said 75k. I said OK, and we proceeded to open a trade window. He then submitted 75 platinum, as he said. I submitted the rune and hit Accept. Before I could do a thing he changed to 75g and hit Accept, leaving me no chance to NOT be scammed.

Yes. Most likely the scammer changed it between him seeing the 75k and him clicking on Accept; there is obviously a bit of time between those two events. It's why I've given up trying to sell to anyone and merching all of my stuff.

From what he said, it looks like the scammer changed the gold value and hit accept just before the OP hit accept. I'm starting to wonder if these people are using scripts to auto change their submitted gold values much faster than any human ever can. If that's the case this will definitely become a growing problem soon. Only fix I can see ANET making to counter this would be to put some kind of time delay after hitting accept or between each step of the transaction. This would make it imposible for a lightning fast script to overcome, and yet still be plenty of time for a normal person using a mouse. Like for instance:
1) open trade window
2) submit money
3) hit accept
4) modify trade items
5) allow new gold value to be entered, but blank out submit key
6) 0.5 sec delay
7) unblank submit gold key so can now be clicked
8) blank out accept key (hell have some kind of countdown on the button too if necessary)
9) 1 sec delay
10) unblank accept key and allow to be clicked
Or something like that. Just some subtle time delays here and there that will thwart bot scripts but probably won't be noticed by the average trader using a mouse to point and click. Have no idea if it is possible to change gold values instantaneously though. If it is, I think I'll stop trading for a while until anet fixes it heh.
